One of the drive-in movies we saw last week was Shrek Forever After. In the movie, Shrek's daughter has a little ogre doll...and it was so cute that I was inspired to make my own...

Remember that work in progress post awhile ago? It's finished!

Well, it's been finished for awhile, but I just got around to photographing a bunch of new monsters today. Life's been busy lately...which tends to happen when the weather gets nicer.

You may look at this and think "hey, that's not new! I've seen that monster before!" Nope. You'd be thinking of this monster. This one is similar, but not the same. It's made from the other pocket from the same vest. So it's kind of a long lost twin sibling.

And of course, his/her mouth opens! (Boy or girl? What do you think?)

My First Craft Show! (part 2)

Hey there Blogger Land!
I had my very first craft show today!!! It was at the CDS Life Transition Center for those with developmental disabilities in Webster, NY. Mom came with me and we had a lot of fun.


I did pretty well. Not spectacular (I did come home with monsters)...but pretty well...I sold about 15 monsters. I thought the Nubbins would be my biggest seller, but they were about equal with the sock monsters. I saw at least 4 people that I used to work with...three from the Communication Center and one from Ivan Green. It was nice to see some familliar faces (one of them ended up being my best customer!). And Mom saw a couple people she knew from church.

Baskets are so nice! They made packing up a breeze! This was all I had to take out to the car! (of course, it was nice that CDS provided the table and chairs).

The black thing this is an orange crate I've had for years (it came from my great-aunt's farm) that I painted black...although it's unpainted on the bottom, so you can still see the original logo. We usually use it as a nightstand at home. I have another crate to match it, and was originally going to bring both, but decided on just the one. I was originally going to bring my sewing machine too, in order to get some work done there, but I decided against that too, since I had a lot of hand-sewing to get done (which I didn't even get done!)

Finished Nubbins

The red & green ones are my featured "Holiday Edition" Nubbins. They'd make great stocking stuffers!

I'm really trying to get more on top of marketing my monsters and my shop...especially with the holidays coming up. I'm doing the Give-Away Day on December 3rd, and planning on doing a "toy drop" inspired by the Toy Society. Anyone got any other low-cost/free marketing tips?

Hmm...I need to get myself some calling cards/business cards.

Sneak Peek: Nubbins

Here's a sneak peek look at my newest monsters...the Nubbins. They'll be small, simple little monsters with no arms.

Hopefully I'll get some sewing done tomorrow and have most of these little guys assembled. I wanted to make some monsters that will be small and simple, and quick and easy to make so I can sell them for a cheaper price. I was inspired by the fact that one of my friend's kid's favorite monsters that I have made is this little orange guy with no arms.

My Fellow Monstermakers: Happycloud Thunderhead

I just saw this monstermaker on The Needle...Happycloud Thunderhead. He makes hats & puppets as well as regular monster plush. The hats are so cute! Well...it's all cute.

He has an etsy shop too.

~Sigh~...I need to start monstermaking again.

I'm so glad I discovered the "digital macro" setting on my digital camera!

These monsters are eagerly awaiting 3 more monsters coming tomorrow! I have 3 that are almost ready. I just have to do the hand sewing (the smiles & hearts) in order for them to be finished.

New Monsters

I made 3 monsters yesterday. Well, to be honest, the green one was already half done and had been laying around waiting to be finished. But the other two were made from scratch.

The green and blue ones are out of fleece remnants, and the orange one is out of t-shirt scraps. The fabric on their bellies are fabric swatches. Does anyone know a good place that sends out fabric swatches?
