Pinkish Sweater Monsters

Well, this first monster isn't technically a Sweater Monster... she is made from more of a thermal knit and is more closely related to the T-Shirt Monster. But she's big like a Sweater Monster, so the other sweater monsters accept her and let her hang out despite her non-sweater texture.

Yup...another big mouth, pocket mouth Sweater Monster. This sweater had a bit of a mock-turtelneck that I incorporated into the design with a little folding and sewing to make it look like some big ol' lips for the monster.

Wilburt the T-Shirt Scrap Monster

Here's a T-shirt scrap monster that's still available in the shop (so far...)!

I named him Wilburt. His back-story is that he "was found in an abandoned washing machine. He likes to explore laundry baskets in search of others like him. He hasn't found any yet, but he isn't giving up!"
He's one of my favorites so far. I love the blue-brown-grey color combination, the mismatched button eyes, and the T-shirt collar that looks like his bottom lip! That bottom lip thing was a happy accident. I was originally going to add teeth, but then decided that it looked good as-is. I'm not sure if I could do that again if I tried!

More Recycled monsters...

Well I promised you more monsters...

This little guy reminds me sort of an Adipose Monster (yes...more Dr. Who referances!) Okay...maybe my little guy isn't quite as fat (or white). It's just those beady little black eyes and that little smile. Go to the link and look at the picture...can't you see what I mean?

This crazy looking gal is out of one of the socks that my friend/old co-worker, Sue, gave me.

This tall drink of water was from a horrible shorts/halter one piece outfit...(sorry Mom) that I'm sure was very stylish for moms in the late 80's/early 90's...that was a part of a bunch of clothes my mom let me take away from her house to make monsters with. I love how even the most horrible, gaudy patterned fabric is wonderful for making monsters with! I saw some flowery/paisley fabric placemats at the Dollar Store today that would be perfect.

But I have so many old clothes and fabric , it's going to be a long time and a lot of monsters and other recycled projects before I have to search around the Dollar Tree and thrift stores to look for old clothes or other fabric to make monsters out of. The only new fabric I buy for my monsters recently are fleece remnants in the discount remnant bin at JoAnne's. The fleece I made that blue monster out of cost me a grand total of 67 cents! And I still have some left!

Happy Monster Faces!

I'm so glad I discovered the "digital macro" setting on my digital camera!

These monsters are eagerly awaiting 3 more monsters coming tomorrow! I have 3 that are almost ready. I just have to do the hand sewing (the smiles & hearts) in order for them to be finished.

New Monsters

I made 3 monsters yesterday. Well, to be honest, the green one was already half done and had been laying around waiting to be finished. But the other two were made from scratch.

The green and blue ones are out of fleece remnants, and the orange one is out of t-shirt scraps. The fabric on their bellies are fabric swatches. Does anyone know a good place that sends out fabric swatches?

Here is my makeshift photo-shoot area.

Brother & Sister Monsters

More monsters with patterned bellies! These are T-shirt Remnant Monsters I finished this weekend. The belly of the girl is a fabric swatch I've had lying around for some time. The boy's belly is from a fabric belt (that I don't use) that came with a skirt I like to wear that is the same fabric.

2.5 more weeks...and then I can make monsters (almost) all day!

Cut Out + Keep Contest

So, I entered my Sweater Monsters and T-Shirt Remnant monsters into a contest at a crafters' community networking site called Cut Out + Keep. The prize is a Craft: t-shirt and an issue of Craft: magazine. I know..."whoopie, a shirt and a magazine"...I know it's not $10,000 or anything, but a pretty cool prize. And hey, what have I got to lose? I just kind of want to see if my monsters are cool enough to win a contest.
And at the least, it's providing me more exposure as well. The morning after I submitted my Sweater Monsters project, I had 5 comments on it and as of now, 7 people have added it to their "favorites list". It seems like every time I check my email, I have a new email from Cut Out + Keep saying that someone has either commented on or "favourited" one of my projects. We'll see if I win!

New Medium...Sweater Monsters!

I'm moving on even further in my monster-making mediums. These two are each from an arm from an oversized sweater. They're my biggest monsters yet! I can see a kid snuggling with these and using one as a pillow.

And here's that second t-shirt monster I promised a picture of awhile back.

I love my sewing machine!
