5 Year Anniversary!

Today marks 5 years that I've been married to my wonderful husband...

5 years...
It feels like such a long time, and yet at the same time feels like no time at all. We still occasionally get mistaken for newlyweds when in public...which always makes me smile, since I've had a goal for myself to keep that crazy, googley-eyed, "newness" in our marriage. Where you still hold hands in public and can be silly with each other. I think the above series of pictures (that I took when we set up the trampoline last week) captures those feelings of love, happiness, and silliness. It's just so...us. :)

Post Valentine's Day Thoughts

I was surprised to find that I just wasn't really "into" Valentine's Day this year...which I find ironic, since back when I was single, I always bewailed my singleness and was bitter on Valentine's Day because I didn't have a signifigant other to spend it with. And now that I'm married, it's not a huge deal to me anymore. Of course, that's not to say I don't enjoy doing a little something special to celebrate.

(This is one of our Engagement Photos)

Maybe I didn't consider Valentine's Day a big deal this year because my husband gives me such an abundance of love throughout the year. And I don't have high expectations as far as cards or gifts. I don't care about diamonds or fancy, extravegant gifts. Gifts are nice, but I don't expect them. It may sound cheesy, but the fact that he loves me is enough of a gift for me! As long as we get to go out to dinner and a movie I'm happy. Well, since we live an hour away from the nearest movie theater, it turned out to be just the movie this year. (since we need to get home to let the dog out). We saw "Avatar" on Saturday. (And I just realized that our movie was in theater 13...on February 13th. That makes me laugh.)

CJ got me roses yesterday too. (He gets me flowers 3 times a year...our anniversary, my birthday, and Valentine's Day...but I never expect it and am always surprised when he gets them). It was funny, because he had gone to the store while I was still asleep, and was planning on surprising me with he roses and breakfast in bed. But I got up to go to the bathroom right as he was coming home, and thwarted his plan to surprise me. But I was still surprised...and I still got roses and still got waffles...just not in bed. ;)

3 Years Together...

Arg! It's been a week since I've blogged! Well, life has been busy with getting the new house ready and packing and everything. And then I was going to write a blog post yesterday celebrating 3 years of marital bliss...and I got sick...

And I mean really ickily sick. I had a yucky feeling tummy for most of the day, and had no desire to eat anything. Just when I thought I had been getting better when CJ got home from work, it got worse...I found out I had a fever...and I threw up. Granted, my stomach felt better afterwards...but I so HATE throwing up! (I don't know how bulimics can stand doing it intentionally!) I haven't thrown up in over 3 years...why did it have to happen on my anniversary?! (well...at least it happened now instead of next weekend when I'll be in Kasey's wedding...that would have sucked!)

I was so disappointed that all our plans for going out to dinner and a movie for our anniversary were ruined, but CJ was wonderful through it all and reassured me that it was alright and that we could do it another day. He also took good care of me...coming home from work with ginger ale, saltines, and roses...going out to the store later and getting me popcicles and NyQuil...taking my glasses off when I'd fallen asleep with them on...feeling my forehead this morning (when I was still asleep) to see if I still had a fever (I didn't).

I really do have a wonderful husband. And I hope I never forget it. God really blessed both of us by bringing us together 3 years ago...

All I need for Valentine's day...

For Valentine's Day, here is a love-inspired sketch I did a long time ago, redone in Illustrator.

I don't need diamonds...I don't need flowers...I don't need chocolate (although it is a bonus!). This is all I need... My husband.

Oct. 2004: We were both in a church Christmas musical and were prerecording the vocals...and he was asleep on the floor of the recording studio while waiting for his turn. I was bored (as well as secretly crushing on him) and sketched him in my notebook.

I drew this sketch just 3 days before he asked me out. It always makes me smile. And my husband makes me happy.
