What's-On-My- Worktable Wednesday: New Nubbins In The Works For Fall

Here's a peek at some new styles of Nubbin I have in the works to be available at craft shows in the fall.

Dapper Mustachio Nubbin
I've done a moustached Nubbin before (two years ago for the RNEST "No-Shave-November/ Movember" team challenge).  I decided with this batch, I like it with just the moustache without the teeth.   I feel like I'm late on the moustache trend, but it still seems to be trending, since people still like it!  And my Facebook friends are loving this Nubbin so far.

Yellow & Grey Floral Print Barn Owl Nubbin
I also have another printed fabric that is yellow spots on grey that I'm making Barn Owls with.  It coordinates really well with the floral print, so these owls will look great displayed next to each other in a basket at shows.

White Arctic Fox Nubbin
In addition to the White "Arctic" Fox, I'd also like to add a Grey Fox Nubbin too....and perhaps some mustard yellow (inspired by Sleepy King's yellow foxes)  And for some reason, I've been having the urge to make one in turquoise-blue.  Who knows... blue foxes could end up popular!

What's On My Worktable Wednesday: Corlorful Patterned Barn Owls Return!

I'm working on making some more colorful, patterned Barn Owl Nubbins this week. I've made the Blue-Faced, Flower Patterned owls before, but the Neon Chevron ones will be making their debut at the Midsummer Mini Mayday show this Saturday!

Owls! Owls! Owls!

I have finally gotten my act together and listed some made-to-order Owl Nubbins in the shop! (one of my goals for 2013 is to list more items and keep my Etsy shop better stocked)

"We're waiiiiiting!  Adopt us!"

Here are the colors currently available...

And if you're into a more realistic, natural color scheme, there is my ever-popular Barn Owl Nubbin!

Want more cute owl-y goodness?  Pop on over to my friend Casey's shop, PeachesProducts.  She makes needlefelted and stuffed owls and other creatures.  She is responsible for inspiring me to make owls in the first place because she loved owls "before they were cool".  She actually volunteers at Braddock Bay Raptor Research as a guide for some of their "Owl Prowls"!

New Monster Monday: Turquoise-Faced Multicolored Barn Owls

Here are the finished limited edition Multicolored Barn Owls!

I've only made three so far to see how people would like them. I'd hate to make a lot of them and then have no one want them.  But based on the response I've been getting on my Facebook fan page after I posted the pictures, people seem to love them!  They are each currently available in my Etsy shop.

For more owl-ish goodness, check out my friend Casey's shop Peaches Products.  It's all her fault I got into owls in the first place!

What's-On-My-Worktable Wednesday: Multicolored Barn Owls

I got a remnant of an interesting floral patterned fleece at Joann's last week. I wanted to make some new Barn Owl style Nubbins out of it.  The white fleece I have that I use for the regular Barn Owls seemed too white.  I didn't have any off-white/cream fleece, so I decided to experiment with making the heart-shaped face a different color.  I've started out with trying turquoise, but I may experiment with other colors later.

I can't wait to see how these guys turn out!

Big Barn Owl Pillow

I'm way behind in my blog posts.  So much has been going on this summer so far...birthdays and anniversaries and craft shows (oh my!), and I haven't had a lot of time to sit down and blog about any of it.  So I'm trying to snatch some time to catch up...since I've been making a lot of new stuff lately in preparation for my next show, the "Mini Mayday" that is at the end of July...as well as some custom pieces...like this Big Barn Owl.

This is a big, throw-pillow-sized barn owl I made for my owl-loving friend Casey (of Peaches Products) for her birthday.  She was into owls "before they were cool".

I may have to make some more of these.  The barn owl Nubbins tend to be really popular at craft shows, so I can imagine how well large pillow-sized barn owls would do!

Casey with her new owl.  I gave it to her when she and our friend Melissa took me out to lunch "for my birthday" a few weeks ago, since they weren't able to make it to my party..

Casey LOOOVES her owls!

Treasury Tuesday: What Large Eyes You Have!

My Barn Owl Nubbin was featured in an owl-themed treasury this week!

Owls...still on top. They may say foxes and hedgehogs are the new "it" animals...but owls are still big. :)

As always, check out my Treasury Tuesday post on the RNEST blog for more Etsy Treasuries! (one of the RNESTers had her treasury featured on the front page of Etsy last week!)

Treasury Tuesday: Summer Joys (and more!)

I went a little Treasury-making-crazy this week. Curating Etsy Treasuries can be a little addicting sometimes.

The weather around here has been getting warmer and warmer, and summer feels like it's just around the corner. So I was inspired to make the Treasury above with items that remind me of the simple joys of summer.

If there's one thing I love as much as buttons..it's photos of buttons! This treasury includes work from fellow RNESTers PeachesPictures and AlisonTyne.

If you're a regular reader of my blog, you already know how much I love photos of vintage wooden spools of thread. It's kind of ridiculous how happy they make me.

Wooden toys are just so great. I love them for their simplicity, natural beauty, durability, and classic feeling. You just can't go wrong with wooden toys!

With spring finally being in full bloom, the birds are back and twitter-tweeting away (well, y'know...not really with Twitter...bird don't use computers! Ha ha! ~ahem~) Anyway, after that trip to my grandmother's house and watching the birds outside her kitchen window, I was inspired to make this treasury highlighting some pretty bird-inspired work, which includes a feather hair comb from my friend Casey of PeachesProducts. I know birds and bird themes are ubiquitous on Etsy (and everywhere else!) but they're just so pretty!

Be sure you go check out the Treasury Tuesday post on the RNEST blog and go see more treasuries that feature some other awesome RNEST members! (if you don't, you're missing out!)

Treasury Tuesday: Foggy Owl

My apologies for not having any blog posts for a whole week...and for missing Etsy Favorite Friday...but I've been sick since Thursday and so there hasn't been much to blog about since life hasn't been too exciting the past few days. Luckily, I am on the mend. And I have some new projects in my head to start sewing.

The weather has been pretty grey around here, so this treasury, that my friend MyKittyEmpire was featured in, fits right in! But with all those adorable little owls, it manages to make grey look happy!

I hope you've enjoyed this week's Treasury Tuesday! As always, go over to the RNEST blog to see my Treasury Tuesday post there with some more lovely Etsy Treasuries!

Barn Owl Plush

I've been inspired to make some more owls lately. They seem to sell well at shows and I usually don't make enough. But I'm trying to keep up and build up a decent supply to keep up with potential demand. Today, I got inspired to make a barn owl.

As I was sewing these owls, I was wishing I had my own DVD of "Legend of the Guardians" to watch (I'd gotten it from Netflix before). I actually ordered the book from the library a few days ago. I'm hoping it comes in soon. I have a thing for reading the book that a movie is based off of...after I've seen the movie.

I took a trip to the thrift store today (half price day!) I was looking through the kids' books, trying to get lucky and maybe find an Ed Emberley book...unfortunately, no such luck. But I did find some books I wanted...by Eric Carle, Steven Kellogg, Dr Seuss...a Fraggle book, some Sesame Street books...and an owl book. Children's books are free (up to 5 books...after that they are 25 cents). I have no kids, but I like kids' books..plus it's nice to have books for my friends' kids to read/look at when they come over.

Since owls are cool now, I figured I'd get this little educational book. A picture of a barn owl is what inspired me to make my little barn owls today...

Of course, whenever I thnk of owls, I think of my friend Casey, who is a fellow RNEST member. She was into owls before they were cool! For some cool owl plushies and needle felted stuff...go check out her Etsy shop, PeachesProducts!

Little Owls

I'm preparing for a craft show this weekend, and have been making some more little owls...

I just can't get enough of taking pictures of these spools of thread! I just put this one as my desktop wallpaper on my laptop.
